‘Cardiff Kook’ Salutes the Troops for Veterans Day

The statue was missing its hat, but two veterans fixed that.

The ‘Cardiff Kook’ was sporting a US Navy pilot’s uniform this morning in honor of Veterans Day — a stray from the typically seen on the popular statue.

By mid-morning the display was already drawing a steady steam of onlookers, including a couple of veterans who noted that the Kook's uniform was 'out of regs' because it was 'missing its cover' (a hat). Finding that unacceptable, the veterans (one Navy, one Army) went and got a hat, and then used a ladder to place it on the statue's head. The wind soon knocked it down, so the veterans placed the hat in the pocket of the pilot suit.

It's not just the Kook paying tribute today. If you're a veteran, of if someone in your family is, please . And to all who have served or do serve, and the families who families who love them, Happy Veterans Day from Patch!
