City Council Decides to Create Plastic Bag Ban
The ordinance would be similar to one approved by Solana Beach in 2012.
The City of Encinitas is creating its own local ban on single-use, plastic bags instead of waiting for the state to act, reported the U-T San Diego.
The council is looking to model the ordinance after the one Solana Beach adopted in 2012 which bans bags and includes a 10-cent charge for paper bag use if people do not bring in a reusable bag or decline a bag.
"Encinitas city employees will need to bring back a draft form of the proposed ordinance for council approval, and that’s not expected to happen until well into 2014. City planning employees said the environmental review alone would likely take two to three months to accomplish," wrote the U-T.
