City of Encinitas Seeks Feedback on Improved Website

The IT department continues to gather and analyze feedback to further improve the website.

The following is by the City of Encinitas

When we launched our new City website in Spring 2012, we invited people to take a test drive and let us know what they thought. Ever since, reports Information Technology (IT) Project Manager Maureen Salmon, “Users have been doing just that.”

She says the department has been delighted at both the quantity and quality of responses. “The comments have helped IT improve specific portions and overall navigation. In fact, the feedback we received and analysis performed prompted IT to add several enhancements.”

One key direction came from inside City Hall. Salmon explains, “City Council members wished to see a prominent location of CIP projects, so we added it to the homepage. This new feature gives citizens a quick glance at projects that are under way, including status and other pertinent information.”

Is City Hall Open This Friday?

The most frequent citizen complaint was lack of notation regarding whether City Hall was open on a given Friday. Now, that information clearly appears underneath the Calendar on the homepage.

The second most prevalent comment regarded the inability to easily access Agendas and Minutes directly from the homepage. According to Salmon, “This information is what a majority of our citizens say they look for when visiting the website. We have remedied the situation by adding a Quick Link to that data on the homepage.”

After combining the e-zoning app with several other web apps to create the popular “My Encinitas” feature, the Planning Department noticed an influx of calls requesting zoning information. In response, a link was added on the homepage to direct web traffic directly to the "My Encinitas" application.

A Continuing Evolution

IT continues to gather and analyze feedback so we can further improve our website and make an array of information accessible in a user-friendly way to our customers and other online visitors.

Salmon says, “A website is always a work in progress. The City welcomes and values your suggestions. Your participation will enable us to continue enhancing your experience.”
