County Issues Five Coastal Beach Warnings in Four Days

In the wake of five coastal water warnings issued this week by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health, San Diego Coastkeeper cautions beachgoers to check its interactive map before heading to the beach. Coastkeeper updates the interactive website with information from the County’s daily sampling program.

This week  due to a 250,000-gallon sewage spill; issued advisories in two locations in Mission Bay and at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach for bacterial counts that exceeded health standards; and an ongoing advisory for Children’s Pool in La Jolla for harbor seal contamination. 

“We created this interactive map to help the County inform residents of beach water quality warnings along our coastline,” said San Diego Coastkeeper lab coordinator Travis Pritchard. “It’s especially important to check for advisories because the County only posts warning signs at the location when there’s a closure.”

Coastkeeper’s interactive beach status map shows locations along the entire coast where the County samples for recreational water quality. The map shows the status in easy-to-read visuals coded red, green and yellow for every beach and bay location that is monitored.
