The Encinitas school district is putting its seaside Pacific View school property up for auction, after the district’s board of trustees rejected a $4.3 million purchase offer from the city, reported the U-T San Diego

According to the newspaper report, district officials believe 2.6-acre property could be worth as much as $14.5 million if it was rezoned from public/semi-public-use to residential or mixed-use zoning.

Since closing as a school in 2003, proposals for development into housing projects to a community art center have come forward.

The city council will discuss the auction process at the January 15 closed session meeting.

THey can add a lot of value .... district maybe should demolish the building, change the zoning to residential and subdivide it into about 20 single family home lots to be sold to individuals who will build and live on the property ... all the houses would be unique ... they would probably get a lot more for the property than selling as is and it would increase property tax for the city
