Mayor Position to be Split in 2014 by Teresa Barth and Kristin Gaspar

Encinitas Mayor Teresa Barth will have an extra six months in the job, then Councilwoman Kristin Gaspar will take over the post and finish out the year, the council unanimously decided Tuesday night, reported the U-T.

In the past, the mayor position rotated between council members, but a ballot measure in 2012 changed that. In the November 2014 elections, city voters will elect the mayor.

"Both Gaspar and Barth said they were debating whether to run and haven’t made up their minds yet. The other three council members said they were not going to run and wanted a fair way of handling the job in the months before the November 2014 election," explained the U-T article.
