National Medicare Education Week in Encinitas

Understand Medicare Monday Sept. 16 at the Encinitas Senior Center.

In September, as part of National Medicare Education Week (NMEW; Sept. 15-22), UnitedHealthcare, with the support of AARP, the Caregiver Action Network and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a), will host free Medicare education events as a service to Encinitas. These events are purely educational and will not, in any way, act as a forum for promoting products.

By taking the time to get educated during NMEW, beneficiaries, their families and caregivers may feel better prepared to make decisions during the Medicare Open Enrollment Period (Oct. 15-Dec. 7), which is most beneficiaries only chance to make a change to their Medicare coverage each year.

Some of the topics that will be covered at the educational events are:

Find out what's happening in Encinitaswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

·         The different types of Medicare coverage, and how to determine what coverage is right for you;

·         How and when to enroll in Medicare, including tips for people who choose to delay enrolling in Medicare past age 65;

Find out what's happening in Encinitaswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

·         Recent changes to Medicare and how they could impact you; and

·         Online and community resources to help people learn more about Medicare.

Following the presentation, attendees can participate in a question-and-answer session with the local representative.
