Transit District to Test Replacement Brake Parts for Sprinter

New rotors arrived Wednesday and maintenance crews are installing them.

The North County Transit District is scheduled Sunday to begin five days of testing replacement brake parts on its Sprinter trains.

Service by the Sprinter, which runs between Oceanside and Escondido, was suspended nearly one month ago when accelerated wear patterns were discovered on rotors in the central disc braking system for its train cars.

New rotors arrived Wednesday and maintenance crews are installing them under the supervision of Federal Railroad Administration officials and the California Public Utilities Commission, the NCTD said.

The NCTD is operating special bus routes while the Sprinter is shut down.

The transit agency also announced that, beginning Monday, a bus will run between the Nordahl Sprinter Station and Craven Circle at Cal State San Marcos from 7:05 a.m. to 7:03 p.m.

Beginning April 12, schedules for the replacement buses will be modified to provide earlier and more frequent service, according to the NCTD.
