7 Ways to Skinny Jeans

I know you have a pair. We all do. That pair of jeans that you keep tucked away in your closet, with the hope that one day soon you’ll be able to slip those babies on and button them up. Oh, skinny jeans! You cruel mistress – while motivating, you can also be downright depressing.

To get you into those puppies just a little bit quicker, I’ve got some simple tips and easy changes that you can make to your daily routine that can help increase calorie burn, bump up your health-quotient, and make you feel amazing.

While not overnight, quick-fixes (nothing is!), adopting a few of these options can REALLY make a difference over time. And, when paired with healthy eating and exercise, you’ll see a change sooner than you’d think!

1. Bring a healthy lunch to work rather than going out. Eating out is an easy way to consume WAY more calories than you need- even healthy options are often packed with hidden calories. Try a whole-grain pita stuffed with hummus, spinach, tomatoes, and peppers. Or a whole-grain tortilla filled with black beans, avocado, tomato, and onion. Yum!

2. Pack snacks in your car, briefcase and purse. Easy ones are raw almonds or walnuts, portable fruit (oranges, apples, bananas), dried fruit (apples, raisins, apricots), peanut butter and whole-grain crackers, popcorn or Lara bars. When you make healthy options convenient, it’s easier to avoid the junk food.

3. Get a stainless steel or glass bottle and keep it filled with water. Then sip away all day. Water hydrates and fills you up, which will help curb snacking binges.

4. When going out to eat, choose an Asian restaurant. You can get dishes with lots of veggies (ask for them steamed), lean protein and brown rice.

5. Meditate for 5 minutes first thing in the morning. The power of sitting still for just 5 minutes is phenomenal. It’s truly the perfect way to start your day.

6. Trade in 30 minutes of “screen time” (TV, computer, smart phone) for 30 minutes of brisk walking. You don’t need any special clothing or equipment – just a decent pair of sneakers. Head up a hill and keep up the pace to break a sweat. We have breath-taking coastal scenery in Encinitas...take advantage your surroundings!

7. When meeting up with friends or family, make it active. Go for a beach walk, hike at a park or ride your bikes. Great conversation can happen while exercising, not just over dinner or drinks!

So make a few of these healthy changes in your daily routine and take those skinny jeans off the shelf. Making simple, conscious choices will change your body!
