A Bike Adventure from Encinitas

There’s nothing  I love better than getting my sweat on and having fun while doing it. And a San Diego bike adventure is the perfect way to have a good time and burn calories.

This past long weekend my guy and I grabbed our bikes and headed out! We boarded the Coaster train in Encinitas with our bikes. SO COOL – there’s space in every car for bikes!

I love traveling by train. I used to travel from upstate NY to New York City regularly on Amtrack and this reminded me of that. It’s great to not worry about traffic or driving. I relaxed and drank my green juice from my oh-so-fave place Beaming in Del Mar.

When we got into the depot station in San Diego, we rode around downtown a while and then went to our jeweler to pick up my engagement ring (it was getting shined!).

We then made our way south by Petco Park and then to the new suspension bridge that gets you over to the waterfront.

We peddled all along the waterfront up to the Broadway Street Pier where we caught the Ferry to Coronado. Again, we brought our bikes on board!  This is one of our favorite things to do. It’s the perfect length of a boat ride – just enough to be on the water, but not too long so that you’re ready to jump off the boat.

We rode our bikes around Coronado, through the cute neighborhoods and by the dog beach. We then headed out on the Silver Strand and rode for miles and miles. It was so peaceful. Once you get out of downtown Coronado, it’s very quiet.

After riding for about 4 hours in the 90+ degree heat, we had lunch at Peohe’s at the Coronado Ferry Landing. I was disappointed in our food and drinks. This is a place that I’ve really liked in the past. In fact, I had the best cosmopolitan of my life here years ago. But it was not very good this day.  Bummer!

We covered some serious ground between the train, our bikes and the ferry!

I tried to figure out our mileage on Google maps, but it was getting to be more hassle than the little bit of trivial information is worth.

It was really cool to go so far and not get in our car once. I’m not sure it was cheaper ($11 each for the Coaster and $8 each for the Ferry), but it was a super fun adventure.

I love pubic transportation if it’s a train! Traveling by city bus just make me sick. Literally I get car sick and want to hurl.

I feel so lucky to live in San Diego where we have public transportation where we can bring our bike aboard. So cool!

On the way home we stopped at Whole Foods and loaded up our backpack with food for dinner – mussels, ravioli and kale. So good and so much better than our disappointing lunch.

I certainly splurged a bit with my eating on this day. We rode for about 6 hours (my ass was killing me) so I knew that I had earned a few more calories.

I highly recommend you take advantage of all San Diego has to offer any chance you can! Get out there and change up your routine, try something different and keep it fun!
