Dozens of Encinitas dogs are a little cleaner and other animals will benefit from a Saturday fundraiser.

San Dieguito Academy Animal Care Club in San Dieguito Academy High School washed 47 dogs and brought in more than $500 in proceeds, donations and auction sales.

The earnings will be spilt up into different categories that will be donated to animal rescue and pet owners with financial difficulties to take care of their animals with medical care.

The last portion of the proceeds will be spent on buying fabric, which will be made into blankets and be donated to shelters.

The club hopes to hold another dog wash event before summer.

“We are planning to have one last Dirty Dog wash at the end of May or the beginning of June before the students leave for college,” said Dana Smith, the president of the San Dieguito Academy Animal Care Club.

Smith hopes to hit the club's target goal by washing 65 dogs.

“If we get the community’s support, if it’s buying a raffle ticket or getting their dog washed, then in return everyone gets helped” Smith said.
