Flora Vista and Ocean Knoll Win School Supply Contest

Flora Vista Elementary won $1000 in SANDAG's 2013 Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge, while Ocean Knoll took second place with $750.

The 2013 Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge is a campaign to increase the number of children who walk, bike, carpool, or take transit to school; to raise awareness of the benefits of more active forms of transportation; and to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety.

During October 2013, a record-breaking 47 schools across the San Diego region participated in the Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge! These schools represented more than 30,000 students. Parents were encouraged to log their children’s trips in TripTracker. The school with the largest percentage of parents who logged their children’s carpool, transit, walk, and/or bike to school trips won the challenge. Scooters, skates, and skateboards counted too. Overall, 8,582 miles were logged during the challenge, which is equivalent to 125,869 home runs at Petco Park or 91 one-way trips to Disneyland!

Congratulations to the winners of the 2013 Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge! These schools won a check from the SANDAG iCommute program to purchase school supplies:
