Innovative Kids Classes Come to Encinitas

Platypus Kids will begin offering Bricks4Kidz classes beginning in April.

From a press release by Bricks4Kidz:

Science, technology, engineering and math are at the center of a nationwide push to transform education in California, and across the United States, away from the humanities and toward the sciences. Still parents are looking for more hands-on approach to introducing the concepts of engineering and technology to their kids that is both engaging and fun.

Enter Bricks4Kidz, a nationwide, creative learning program that teaches elementary school aged children concepts in engineering, mechanics, technology, and science using LEGO components such as bricks, gears, motors, and axles. Designed by teachers, architects and engineering professionals, the lessons in a Bricks 4 Kidz class help students build problem solving and critical thinking skills and foster creativity and innovation.

The models built in a Bricks4Kidz LEGO Lab are not like the LEGO models built from a kit bought at your typical toy store. Most Bricks 4 Kidz models are actual working machines that utilize motors, gears, and axles. All the models and lesson plans are unique to Bricks4Kidz.

Platypus Kids, an Encinitas resale store which also features specialty kids classes, will begin offering these innovative Bricks4Kidz classes beginning in April. Initailly there will be 6 week sessions of Jr. Robotics for ages 7yrs & up and Stop Motion Animation for ages 9yrs & up, both which feature LEGO products. They are looking at developing a class for kids under 7 as well.
