Oct. 9 is Walk and Bike to School Day

October 9 is International Walk to School Day – regional schools are joining a growing movement to encourage children to use physically active ways to get to school as a way to combat childhood obesity.

Students across San Diego County will celebrate Walk and Bike to School Day Wednesday, a component of the weeklong Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Challenge organized by the SANDAG iCommute program.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the health and environmental benefits of walking and biking to school, and highlight how schools can improve safety around their campuses by reducing traffic congestion.
