Pacific View Update

A few more firms indicated their interest in developing the Pacific View school site after an initial deadline was extended by the Encinitas Union School District. In addition to the previous companies (see the list ) that registered their interest in submitting a proposal for the closed school in downtown Encinitas, here are the new firms: MDT Development Partners, based in Arizona; New Urban West of San Diego; and EDGE Development in Temecula.

One name not on that list is the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Association, which . Dody Crawford, DEMA’s executive director, recently said that the organization may still submit a proposal, and that there are many options for the 2.82-acre property, such as an ocean studies or retreat center. “There is a lot we could do with it,” she says. A Facebook group, Envision the View, also hopes to keep the property for public use. Pacific View proposals are due to the district Jan. 4.

The school district plan estimates it would take more than $408 million, after deducting state funding and developer fees, to modernize its middle and high school campuses, as well as make district technology upgrades and open two new middle schools in La Costa Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch.

Project costs for Encinitas campuses are about $30 million for Diegueno Middle School and about $76 million for ; the latter project carries the highest price tag due in part to the 75-year-old school’s age.

Upgrades at , which is based in Carlsbad but draws students from Encinitas, would cost about $41 million.

Under the timetables in the meeting minutes, a bond measure would be pursued to be put on the ballot in November 2012.
