UCSD Ranks in ‘U.S. News and World Report’s Top 10 Public Universities

The campus was named the 38th best university in the nation and the 8th best public university on the well-known list.

UC San Diego continues to shine as one of the best public universities.

U.S. News and World Report released its 2013 Best College guidebook on Wednesday ranking UC San Diego as the 8th best public university and 38th best university in the nation.

The local campus has made the top 10 public universities list for more than 10 years.

“It is truly an honor for UC San Diego to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s premier universities,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla in a statement. “This is a reflection of the quality of our academic enterprise and our diverse strengths across disciplines – from the arts and humanities to the social and physical sciences.”

In addition to academic reputation, graduation, retention rates and faculty resources, the U.S. News rankings are based on student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving, according to UC San Diego.

Four other University of California campuses made the top 10 list of public universities. UC Berkeley topped the list, followed by UCLA at number two, UC Davis in the eighth spot and UC Santa Barbara ranked 10th.

Locally, the University of San Diego was ranked 92nd among national universities and tied for 14th among schools ranked as “up and coming.”

San Diego State University was ranked 165th among national universities, a category in which Harvard and Princeton were top-ranked.

In the Western regional college section, Point Loma Nazarene was ranked 17th and Cal State San Marcos 81st.

The public deserves an objective, unemotional, factual public debate on this proposition. So far IRead More am still leaning toward a yes vote, but I am keeping an open mind at least through this month.

That may very well have been part of it. Grandma had an affinity for liquor as well, but grandpaRead More hated alcohol with a passion and wouldn't allow a single drop of it in the house. Sometimes the man's leadership is essential.

Aunt Judy was probably a very lonely person and turned to comfort in a bottle. What a darn shame.

And you know what ladies, if you don't like Batman's way you don't have to do it Batman's way. ThisRead More is America, not Batmerica, and it's not Flanderstan either. My grandmother's sister decided to become a career woman instead of geting married and having a family. She started and ran a very successful accounting business, back in the 1930s! So who needs Flanders and his women's lib? There's nothing standing in your way, there never has been. Flanders and the rest are lying to you. Aunt Judy did become an alcoholic though and died rather young because of it. Would that have been different if she had been a family woman? Nobody knows.
