New Yoga Kids Classes

Iyengar Yoga Center of North County announces the start of Kids Class.  Children ages 8 to 12 meet weekly to participate in a 45 minute long class.  The four week  program costs $40 and begins Tuesday, October 18th.  Registration is available online or by phone.

In a fast-paced, competitive, technology-driven society, the ancient art of yoga teaches children to slow down, listen well and connect with their bodies.  Studies show that yoga improves motor skills and concentration in children, as well as posture and breathing.  An early introduction to yoga starts children on a healthy path for life by providing a non-competitive physical activity and building a positive self-image.

The class is taught by Deanna Cramer, a teacher with over 15 years experience in the academic environment and Iyengar yoga practitioner for nine years.  When asked how teaching children differs from working with adults, Cramer replies “Children love speed and variety.  We practice and change from pose to pose more rapidly than with adults.  Asana practice needs to be playful and give children challenges for their age.”
