Yoga for Men

A “Yoga For Men” evening at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at Iyengar Yoga North County in Encinitas will explore the benefits of Iyengar yoga in improving flexibility, enhancing sports performance, calming the mind from stresses of everyday life and more.  The class is $15.

Led by Stan Williams, who also teaches yoga to the SDSU Aztec’s football and lacrosse teams, this should not to be confused with the new “Broga” trend.  Our first-ever ‘Men and Yoga’ event focuses on the Iyengar method and does not incorporate calisthenics or Western strength-training exercises, nor does it include music, incense or chanting.  Stan will share his understanding and down-to-earth perspectives on the art, science and philosophy of yoga in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere.  Class participants also will learn and dissect several yoga poses.

Although outnumbered, the Center has a solid and steady group of male practitioners who regularly attend classes; many who run, surf, golf and practice martial arts.  Some discovered Iyengar yoga’s therapeutic benefits while recovering from sports injuries while others began practice to avoid them.  All of them agree that they’ve benefitted from Iyengar yoga.  So, guys, come see for yourselves what Iyengar yoga is all about. It just might be for you, too.
