Hundreds Ride from Encinitas in Memory of Fallen Cyclist

Eric Ringdahl was killed after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle on April 21 on El Camino Real near La Costa Avenue.

Often in times of tragedy or hardship people can come together for a cause. On Saturday, more than 200 cyclists came together for a memorial ride to honor fallen cyclist Eric Ringdahl whose life was cut short after being hit by a car while riding with a friend.

Cyclists departed from Ride Cyclery in Encinitas and made their way to the site of the erected memorial, which includes flowers, photos and a ghost bike.

Once there, a few words of respect were said followed by a moment of silence. After which the various groups splintered off into several different, regularly scheduled rides.

The following statement resonated throughout the ride that day, "Today is about the cycling community coming together as one to pay our respect to the Ringdahl Family. And to be a reminder that every time we put a leg over the bike and head out for a ride we need to be sure we tell our families we love them and give them big hugs," said Brent Garrigus, owner of Ride Cyclery.

For those of your who would like to contribute to the Ringdahl's widow and their young children, information can be found on the Caring Bridge website at www.caringbridge.org/visit/amyringdahl or donations can be made to the Eric Ringdahl Memorial Fund where checks may be deposited at any Wells Fargo Branch.
