Skate and Music Festival Rolling in to Ecke Family YMCA This Weekend

The community event will help raise money for a major renovation of the skate park.

Since opening its doors in 1990, the Magdalena Ecke Family Skate Park has graced the pages of high-gloss magazines, been the backdrop YouTube videos that earned more than 2 million views, and has long won the hearts of locals—including legends like Tony Hawk and Shaun White.

Indeed, the skate park is a crown jewel, but it’s due for a facelift. This fall the 34,000-square-foot-facilty will undergo a $680,000-rennovation, and the fundraising for that effort will kickoff Saturday with the 2nd annual .

The eventful day, which is free and open to the public, will focus on celebrating the sport of skateboarding, local musical acts and enjoying our community. Visitors can bring their boards and skate to the music of five local bands while the pros will show off their skating skills at various demos. Bull Taco and Whole Foods will provide fuel for the day, as will Vitamin Water.

The World's Largest Skateboard will be on display along with a silent auction and opportunity drawings to support the rebuild campaign.

Sponsors include Legoland, SPY Inc., Osiris Shoes and other local businesses, all of which will provide giveaways for participants.

Funds raised at this event will benefit the skate park renovations, which will include maintenance of the popular wood structures and expasion of "mini land."
