Surf Report & Forecast for May 17-18

Three- to four-foot waves possible, but accompanied by wind and rain.

A light rain is currently falling and the south wind is already adding a bump to surface texture. Swell is up a bit, this one being combo SW and W. Wind will pick up today and blow mostly from S-SW with gusts up to 20 knots.

Periods are short right now, coming in at about 6 seconds. By this afternoon, swell direction should be more from the west. More rain is expected later this afternoon, but hopefully we'll get a window of calm winds and groomed four-foot peaks. Wishful thinking, but not totally out of the question.

Rainfall will likely reach at least a tenth of an inch of rain. County health advisors recommend staying out of the water for 72 hours, especially near rivermouths and creek outlets.

For tomorrow, May 18, the west fills in and we could see some chest-high waves or even larger. Wind will be strong, however, coming in from the south in the morning and switching to straight onshore by afternoon.
