Poll: 10 Years After Renaming, Do You Still Call it the ‘Del Mar Fair’?

Changed in 2002 to the San Diego County Fair, old name still popular as event kicks off again.

In 1984, after first being called the Southern California Exposition and San Diego County Fair, the event name was shortened to the Del Mar Fair.  A former name was restored in 2002 when it became today’s San Diego County Fair. But those who came of age in its growth years still prefer Del Mar Fair. How do you refer to the summertime tradition that started Friday—with its inventive fried foods, grandstand acts, Fun Zone, pig races and slicer-dicer booths?
