Biking the Talk

This past week I challenged myself to replaced a number of car trips with bike trips. How did I do? You decide.

At council meetings I often talk about the need to create a more walkable/bikeable community.

This past week I decided to challenge myself to do more than just talk about it.  I set a goal of replacing at least one car trip a day by biking instead.

Friday, July 1 - Rode to city hall to welcome the new city manager.

Saturday, July 2 - Rode in the Cardiff 100th Birthday Celebration Parade instead of riding in one of the cars.

Sunday, July 3 - Rode downtown for gelato at Whole Foods.

Monday, July 4 - A total car free day! Rode to Moonlight Beach just for fun.

Tuesday, July 5 - Rode to yoga class on 2nd Street.

Wednesday, July 6 - Rode to city hall for a few hours of work.

Thursday, July 7 - Rode to city hall for the Cultural Tourism committee meeting.

Of course it helps that I live only a few miles away from city hall and have a flexible schedule but it certainly is possible and I intend to keep at it.

The experience has also made me more aware of the challenges bike riders have...like people parking in the bike lane!

Look for me on my red cruiser...with my helmet on of course!
