I voted against the measure. I do not like goverment by initiative. I do not like spending moneyRead More on special elections. I do not like fraudulent names on initiatives (I already have the right to vote). I think people who work in Encinitas should be able to afford to live there. I think we elect councils to handle just this type of issue. All I see here is gloating, disparaging anyone who disagree as some tool of the developers. Apparently there are no clear headed honest people who believe voting each time a land use issue comes up is bad government. Claiming some sort of clear mandate when maybe 13000 went to the polls (in november over 60000 residents voted, probably around 70% of registered voters). How do you claim a mandate with only 15% of voters showing up and fewer than .004% of registered voters deciding the election? I am guessing that was part of the strategy, put it on a ballot when they knew people would not turn out at the poles. I have never liked politics Encinitas style, but if this is the level of honesty the Yes people bring to Encinitas we are in more trouble than I thought. You won the election, but lost many friends and neighbors, especially with this gloating.
Encinitas YES on A June 19, 2013 at 09:49 am
Les: many people who work in Encinitas cannot afford to live here, that is true. However,Read More affordable housing only has to be planned for, but never built/sold, in order to satisfy state mandates (per ex-Planning Dir. Murphy). Once planned for, the developer can (and does) sell the unit at market rate. That should disturb you. I don't hear gloating, but rather extreme relief from Yes people. The town has been at the mercy of developers making backroom deals for far too many years, and those abuses culminated in yesterday's election. Your post is the first time on any blog that I've seen the word "mandate" used. No one on the Yes side is claiming a mandate. Finally: a low turn-out election was not "part of the strategy." Again, years of abuse had residents primed, so when the 1,300 units plan for El Camino Real was revealed by the city, followed by last year's Council's appointment of the developer-heavy ERAC that recommended "up to five stories" at specific sites around the city, folks became very nervous. Over 8,500 petition signatures were gathered from a very concerned populace. At greater than 15% of registered voters signing, this triggered a special election. Les, you're blaming the messenger. Understand the history of developer-encouraged abuse in this town and blame the cause. The Yes on A win is the effect.

I voted Yes on A. I am depressed that we cannot trust our elected officials when it comes toRead More development issues.

I guess the latest intrigue for 'BA2''s moniker, is inferring 'Mike Andreen's comment was worth aRead More Google search or intimating his view subservient to hers. Some people, cannot handle fake names 'BA2'.

Encinitas really is a silly little town. Heaven forbid that they ever have a real problem to dealRead More with.

Do not let out-of-town developers dictate how OUR city should be. We must SAVE ENCINITAS. VOTE YESRead More ON PROP A!

Just follow the money...the developers are against Prop A. The citizens are for Prop A. Vote YESRead More ON PROP A!

We already voted YES. That's the best course of action for those who can stand up to outsideRead More interests and foolish, brainwashed politicians who are not in touch with what neighbors care about, preserving our quality of life and community character by allowing us to have a VOICE, through elections, paid for by developers, to decide whether we want to increase height limits and to upzone to exceed 30 ft. and two stories. Citizens of Del Mar get to vote; citizens of Escondido get to vote. Many towns throughout California allow and encourage citizens to take back local control. We can say no to overdevelopment, but when appropriate, we could vote YES, as we have in the past. Trust yourself, and trust your neighbors. We voted YES, because we know that's best for all of us. We are glad that through initiative the populace can decide for ourselves!

We do NOT want the pro-developer groups to ruin our beautiful city. The citizens of Encinitas MUSTRead More decide that our city is important to us and we do not want it ruined by out-of-town developers who have absolutely no interest in our city except to make big money. In order to do this, PLEASE VOTE YES ON PROP A!
Frank H. Robles June 17, 2013 at 02:29 pm

I revered and still revere my fathers' good advice, to "R-E-L-A-X Sonny-boy".
The county is encouraging parents to make sure their children are current on vaccinations for whooping cough. Patch file photo.

There were several cases of Whooping Cough reported at SDA, not just one. Wondering why not all wereRead More reported.
sorelly2002@yahoo.com June 17, 2013 at 08:11 am
So glad the County is encouraging parents to make sure their children are current on vaccines...theyRead More work so well. ALL cases reported above were fully vaccinated. A study was recently released that 80% of the people that got whooping cough during the 2010 outbreak were fully vaccinated also. Apparently you have better chances of actually getting it if you are vaccinated so I am glad they are encouraging parents to do so.
