Why is it called Lobster West when they'll be peddling lobsters from the East?-)

Hi Brian and Susie. Thanks for your comments. Yes, we do need to keep doing research on proton…Read More therapy: the few attempts at comparing protons and x-rays thus far have been pretty bad. If you have specific questions about a study, feel free to message me on LinkedIn or Twitter: I would love to chat with neighbors. And there will be a free talk on proton therapy at the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla Schaetzel Center, April 25 at 7:00pm. Please come and see how it works- and please bring your questions! (1-800-SCRIPPS). Cheers, Ryan

Interesting Brian, I've been researching and reading similar data.

Research is showing this is just another expensive therapy with no discernible improvement in…Read More outcome. Like many cancer drugs, they are praised for improving outcomes but when you read the details the improvement is measured in weeks at a cost few can afford. sooner or later we must evolve a single payor system that evaluates the efficacy of new drugs and therapies.

We should develop a "brand" for North County to attract developer investment and grab a…Read More bigger share of tax money? Said like someone who has no idea what the word "branding" means - nor has any intention of representing the public interest. North County's not Coca Cola and shouldn't be presented in the same way.

Oh oh: "The SDNEDC has also created a map on Google Earth for developers to use as a tool to…Read More determine if they want to invest in the region". Translation: Let's roll out the red carpet to bulldozers to get rid off the little open spaces we have.
"The goal is to attract developers, business and investors to the region": Leave us alone Bill Horn. We have no interest in your grandiose plan.

I don't commute, I drive all over the county on a daily basis to do my business. I have clients in…Read More almost every city in the county. It's been a pleasure on the 78 corridor lately as the Sprinter is no longer closing intersections every 15 minutes. In 2012, Janyary - October the Sprinter moved 890,394 pasengers ... so maybe a million a year. not 2 million. They are finding out running the replacement buses are cheaper, a lot cheaper than the train so every day the Sprinter doesn't run, we're saving money. With a county so spread out, 17 cities, county, each with their own centers, industrial, commercial and residential centers, San Diego haveing many of each it is highly impractical to take public transit. San Diego County is unlike any other in the country which are mainly hub and spoke cities. We spend about 45% of transportation dollars on public transportation even though 3% use it .. only government could put lipstick on that pig ... The Coaster seems to work ... buses crisscross the county mostly empty ..
InMyHumbleOpinion April 5, 2013 at 02:14 pm
Riders on the Sprinter need to be safe and know their vehicle can stop, pretty clear to me! Did they…Read More really need to spend $863,000 for various “studies” instead?!! I'd like some explanations! I suppose they can answer some of their own questions poised in these studies by now on their internal environment and work flow With all the vehicles being shut down and completely out of service . . . how much did this cost in revenue loss? No matter, i guess they will just figure out some way to add it to the capital expense line.(so wrong) I think its rather obvious they need to rethink the agency's current work environment...I can save them the $150,000 on that one and fix more brakes! P.S. 2.0 million people ride the sprinter...so i guess its moving lots of people Jay! As a commuter that drives into downtown San Diego every day from North County and takes the train periodically, I can tell you keeping an extra 3% off the freeways makes a huge difference in traffic flow (studies confirm). In my opinion, we need more better run and maintained public transit. There are many people who do not have cars and need to get to work or want to commute economically and ecologically. Employers are getting on the band wagon to reimburse employees for commuting via public transportation and providing shuttles to and from stations (look at Qualcomm's model...very impressive) I say don't throw the baby our with the bathwater...fix the budget priorities and the brakes!
Jay Berman April 4, 2013 at 02:38 pm
Only 3% of San Diego county residents use public transit yet we spend an incredible amount to run…Read More and maintain the system. Look around at the buses here in north county, most pretty empty most of the day .... Public transit is too difficult, not convenient in SD county as we have about 17 cities and county - all with their own commercial, residential and industrial zones .. we are unlike most other cities that are hub and spoke ... The Coaster seems to be the only thing that somewhat works .. The Sprinter was doomed right from the beginning, their projections were way off ... it was anything it takes to build it ... now, we are seeing the results of that .. It does one thing efficiently, it connects the street gangs from Escondido, San Marcos, Vista and Oceanside ... it will be interesting to see if gang crime decreases while the Sprinter is down ..

Edison wants to restart its badlly damaged nuclear reactor. What could possibly go wrong other than…Read More a catastrophic nuclear meltdown? A year ago test results showed 8 tube ruptures during main steam line break testing - clearly indicating the design of the replacement steam generators is faulty. Why on Earth has the NRC not ruled that the risks to millions upon millions of Southern Californians is imprudent and unnecessary? It's time to decommission the ticking nuclear time bomb that sits on our fragile shoreline between San Diego and Los Angeles.
