I moved to Encinitas almost 7 years ago when I married Steve Bartram, retired Marine helicopter pilot and high school science teacher; father of 3 beautiful daughters.  Since then, I have enjoyed the beauty and funkiness of this special community.  Whether cycling, walking, volunteering in the "Out and About" program through the Senior Center, shopping at local stores, or working with neighbors and friends to understand and contribute to important issues in Encinitas, I am always grateful that I live here.

I have extensive experience in government, business, and academia.  My first career was in international relations, working at NASA and NOAA on international programs to study the earth from space.  I spend five years in strategic planning and new business develoment for a major aerospace company.  I created my own consulting business, which I had to close when I returned to government service.  Since 1998, I have been working at UC San Diego in a variety of positions at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Sustainability Solutions Institute, and the Rady School of Management.  Currently I teach Business Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Corporate Environmental Strategy at UC San Diego, based in the business school.

My husband, Steve Bartram, is a long-time Encinitas resident.  His 3 daughters attended Flora Vista, Diegueno, and SDA.  He is an avid cyclist and a volunteer Red Cross CPR/AED instructor.  My daughter lives in northern Virginia, and visits whenever she can.

I serve on the Board of Directors of the California Center for Sustainable Energy.  I volunteer with the "Out and About" program through the Encinitas Senior Center, and I read to Head Start children every week in Tierrasanta.  I'm very active in my church, serving on the Board of Directors and several committees.  I earned a PhD in public policy from the George Washington University and an MBA from UCSD
